Crystal Pod Shell
A prefilled pod in a transparent housing. The point is not decoration — it is that a buyer, a distributor and a regulator can all see the wick, the chamber and the fill level without opening anything.

Options
What can be varied, and what cannot
Everything cosmetic is configurable. Everything regulatory is not — the chamber stays at 2 ml and the strength ceiling follows the destination market.

A clear housing makes manufacturing quality visible in a way an opaque shell does not. For a distributor that is an argument in the listing copy; for the factory it is a reason the cosmetic inspection standard is set before tooling, not after.
Where it fits
Three reasons buyers specify it
Display and trial
Retail counters and trade shows. The product explains itself, which shortens a conversation a distributor would otherwise have to have repeatedly.
Brand colour as the differentiator
Tinted housings let a brand own a colour across a range without changing the pod inside it, so the compliance work is not repeated per colourway.
Quality that is checkable
Fill level, wick seating and chamber cleanliness are inspectable without destructive testing. Useful when your buyer asks how you verify a batch.
Before you order
What we need to quote
A shell project adds two questions to the standard five: the visual direction, and whether you need a tooling set of your own.
- 01 · Target market
- Drives limits and paperwork
- 02 · Device to match
- Model or physical sample
- 03 · Quantity band
- Monthly or per order
- 04 · Transparency and colour
- Clear, tinted or frosted
- 05 · Tooling
- Shared tooling or your own
Send those and the factory team can confirm which parts of the shell are shared tooling and which need a set cut for you — that split is the main cost variable.
Questions
Crystal shell questions
Same platform, different housing. It shares the pod base, wick and coil options with the Replacement Pod Core, so it is a variant rather than a separate product to engineer.
Yes. Colour and transparency level are set on the physical sample you approve, and the finish is locked to that sample before production.
No. UK limits attach to nicotine strength and pod capacity, not to how the housing looks. A 2 ml chamber stays a 2 ml chamber in a clear shell.
Materials and compliance
Shell materials, finishes and the rules they answer to
A housing change is not a regulatory change — provided the material and the volume stay inside the same envelope.
- PCTG
- The food-grade transparent copolyester used for clear housings. Chosen for clarity and for resisting reaction with e-liquid.
- Transparency versus tint
- Clear shows fill level and liquid condition; tinted hides discolouration. Both are quoted on the same core.
- Colour matching
- Pantone or physical-sample matching on housings and packaging — handled through private label tooling.
- Child-resistant and tamper-evident
- A UK requirement for nicotine products, and the same logic is applied to EU SKUs — see the UK guide.
- RoHS substances
- Restricted materials in electrical and electronic products. Applies to the device the pod seats in, not the pod alone.
- 2 ml chamber
- The shell is sized to the same 2 ml ceiling as the core, so a housing change never changes the regulatory category.
- Core assembly
- Shell plus pod core is quoted as one fitted unit, with one fitment record per device.
- Sterility and handling
- Filled under vacuum and sealed before packing; no consumer opening step exists on a closed pod.
Where the rules are published
- EU RoHS Directive — restricted substances in electrical products
- EU CE marking — what the mark covers and who applies it
- MHRA e-cigarette and vape products guidance hub (UK notification scheme)
- Directive 2014/40/EU (TPD) — Article 20 sets the 2 ml / 20 mg/ml envelope

Next step
Order a shell sample against your own device.
Sampling runs 7–15 days. Send the device model, the visual direction and the quantity band and the factory team will confirm what is achievable.

Quoting a crystal shell programme?
Crystal shells are tooling-led: the configuration you get quoted depends on transparency, surface finish and colour matching. Send your brief and we confirm what is available off existing tooling and what needs a new mould.
